“Yi Peng festival” or “Thai sky lantern festival” or “Lanna Sky lantern festival” or “Chiang Mai Sky Lantern festival” and “loy krathong festival” is a great tradition of the Lanna region of northern Thailand that has been practiced since ancient times or on the full moon day of the second lunar month of the Lanna people. It falls on the full moon day of the 12th lunar month of the central region or the “Loy Krathong festival”. It is the end of the rainy season, the beginning of winter. Today’s weather is very good. The sky was clear and very pleasing to the eyes. A big festival, where thousands of Khom Loi (sky lanterns or yi peng) are floated in to the air during a Buddhist ceremony, is held a few days ahead of the actual Loy Krathong/Yi Peng festival at I Love Ban Thi, some 30 km from Chiang Mai town, Apparently, this festival will be held on a smaller scale on the 24th of November, 2026, again at I Love Ban Thi.
This years is a year as we organize this festival, there are many activities and showing in event.
